FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Frankfurt Card

Which pass is worth it, what is included and how does booking work? Here you'll find answers to the most important questions.

The Frankfurt Card basic does not include the public transport ticket and offers only the experience discounts. The regular Frankfurt Card, on the other hand, includes free use of local public transport in Frankfurt. So if you want to use buses and trains during your stay (which is highly recommended in Frankfurt), you should go for the normal Frankfurt Card.

Yes. In addition to the card for individuals, there is a group card for up to 5 people. All travelers receive one shared card on which all names are entered. The group must stay together as only one card is issued for everyone and must be presented at museum ticket offices or during inspections.

The group card is worthwhile from 2 people onwards, provided everyone wants to use the same offers together. Tip: If you're traveling with children, keep in mind that children up to 5 years old can travel free on public transport even without a card. For older children/teenagers, the group card can be used; however, many places also offer their own children's or family prices which may be cheaper than the Frankfurt Card discount.

You can use the Frankfurt Card conveniently digitally on your smartphone. Printing is not mandatory. When you buy online, you receive a PDF/digital ticket that you can show on your phone. Of course, it's also possible to print the ticket if you prefer to take a paper copy with you. Digital tickets are accepted on buses and at ticket offices – just make sure your device has sufficient battery and the ticket is clearly legible.

The card is valid throughout the entire Frankfurt city area as a travel ticket, including the airport area. You can use all municipal transport with it (S-trains, U-trains, trams, buses and regional trains within Frankfurt). It is not valid outside Frankfurt or on long-distance trains (IC/ICE).

For discount benefits, it's valid at all official partners of the Frankfurt Card – this includes most municipal museums, many private museums, major attractions like the zoo or Palm Garden, city tours, selected tour operators, restaurants and shops. A complete list is available online and is often provided at the tourist information office.

The Frankfurt Card is easily available – both locally in Frankfurt and online:

  • Book online: Most conveniently via the official tourism website (visitfrankfurt.travel)
  • Tourist Information: e.g. at Römer (Römerberg 27) or in the main train station
  • Frankfurt Airport: In the DB Travel Center (Terminal 1, Area B) or in the Tourist Center "Luggage Gallery"
  • Frankfurt Ticket advance sales outlets: e.g. in the Alte Oper
  • Hotels: Many hotels in Frankfurt have the Frankfurt Card available at reception

Note: Group cards (for up to 5 people) are currently not directly bookable online and must be purchased by phone or at the Tourist Info office.

The Frankfurt Card is offered in various variants:

  • 1-day card: Valid for one calendar day until end of service (approx. 5:00 AM the following day)
  • 2-day card: Valid for two consecutive calendar days until end of service respectively

Each variant is available as:

  • Individual card: Valid for one person (personalized, non-transferable)
  • Group card: Valid for up to 5 people traveling together

To use the discounts, proceed as follows:

  • At museums and attractions: Simply show the Frankfurt Card at the ticket office. Participating institutions will then automatically grant the corresponding discount on the regular admission price (usually 20–50% cheaper).
  • For city tours and guided tours: You also receive a discount on many guided tours with the Frankfurt Card. Show the card when purchasing tickets and the operator will deduct the corresponding discount.
  • In restaurants and shopping: Some restaurants, cafés and shops offer discounts. The Frankfurt Card must be presented before ordering/payment.

Note that Frankfurt Card discounts are always calculated on the full adult price. You cannot additionally reduce existing discounts (for children, families, seniors, etc.) with the Frankfurt Card.
